Kenneth Anthony Westerman, age 83, of Springfield, MO, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. He was born February 10, 1932, in Piqua, Kansas to Charles and Frances (Ullrich) Westerman. He attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, and he was a member of The Knights of Columbus of St. Ann Catholic Church, Warsaw, MO and St. Theresa Catholic Church, in Perry, KS, He retired after 32 years from Toro Inc. After retirement, he spent many years doing what he loved carpentry work and volunteered his skills in building a new church and rectory in Warsaw, MO. He also loved to fish, hunt, camping at the family farm, restoring cars and boats, and traveling around the United States, with his wife and grand-daughter Maleah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife: Rosalie (Rosy) Westerman and his siblings: Ambrose, George, sister Bonnie Atwell, and one nephew Gary Atwell. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 26 years, and his children: Steve Westerman, Topeka, KS, Russ Westerman, (Kathy) Fresno, CA. Kevin Westerman, (Connie) Springfield, MO. Keith Westerman, Strafford, MO John Banker, (Amy) Pacific Palisades, CA Michelle Riggs, (Jonathan) Warsaw, MO. 11 grandchildren, 6-great-grandchildren , 2 nieces, 1-nephew, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Ken was a loving husband, father, grand- father, great-grand-father, and his life was an inspiration to us all.
In honor of his love for his grandchildren, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Make A Wish Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Resurrection Cemetery, in Lenexa, KS.
