Kermit T. Holmes, Jr., 72, of Republic, MO, born March 1, 1943 to Kermit T. Sr. and Lorene (Yoachum) Holmes; passed away in his home with his loved ones by his side, when he took the hand of Jesus to enter his Heavenly home, July 28, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer. He was united in marriage to Barbara Garrison, August 17, 1962. Born to this marriage were two children: Kevin and Tami. Kermit gave his life to the Lord in 1976, faithfully ministering to many, serving in various churches in the Southwest MO area, and was currently serving as a board member at Sac River Cowboy Church. He retired from Springfield City Utilities in 2005. He was currently employed at Crossbreed Holsters. He began his prison ministry in 2000 with Bill Glass and then continued with CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) where he used his motorcycle and his leathers as tools to draw in-mates interest so that he could witness to them. He was involved with other prison ministries, as well, until experiencing health issues. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 53 years: Barbara; son Kevin and wife Becky, and daughter Tamela and husband Jerry Tuttle; 3 granddaughters: Lyndi and husband Matt, Shayla, Kassidy and step-grandson Mitchell; a brother Sonny Lee Holmes, a sister Jeannine Templeton; plus a host of family, friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday August 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm with a visitation Friday 6:00 to 8:00 pm all at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Burial will take place at Mt. Comfort Cemetery. Memorial Contributions are suggested to Mercy Hospice.
