Hazel Ridinger, 85, of Springfield, MO Passed away Oct 23, 2014 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born Nov 2, 1928 to Jesse and Galena Young of Protem, MO. She was one of 9 brothers and sisters, Ocie (Elwanda) Young, Irlma (Oliver) Bray, Leva (Bryce) Moore, Neva (Jim) Ford., JT (Jean) Young, Bermetta (Joe) Dean, Carl (Loretta) Young, Don (Barbara) Young.
Hazel married Ralph A Ridinger July 21, 1951 in Harrison Ark. Their first home was in Branson, and later moved to Kansas City. Their home was a busy place welcoming family and friends. Hazel was active with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where she served as a Den Mother. Ralph and Hazel enjoyed square dancing in Kansas City and later in Springfield.
After living in Kansas City for many years, they moved to Springfield where she retired from the Springfield Public School System. She was a school cook for many years where she was able to see her grandchildren every day, and often sneaked them special cookies and treats.
She was a long-time member of Eastern Gate Freewill Baptist Church. She was active in the Womens Auxillary, and helped support their special mission projects.
Making a home was important. She crocheted afghans and made beautiful quilts for her family. Hazel and Ralph vacationed annually for several years, visiting 23 different states. She loved organizing the Young Family Reunion every year. Her greatest pleasure in life was visiting with her family and friends, cooking for them and having them in her home
Hazel was a warm and loving person, who will be greatly missed.
Surviving her are husband Ralph, sons Steve (Dennise) and Larry; 4 grand children, Joseph Allen (Kristina), Jessica Kay (Jason), Januari Dawn, Geoffrey Steven (Sarah), and 16 great grandchildren Devon, Drake, Drew, Reese, Riley, Auston, Alexander, Abigail, Donovan, Dominic, Jalie, Jadyn, Joslyn, Jennifer, Samantha, and Joy, all of Springfield,. Three brothers, 1 sister and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn East, Oct. 28, 2014 at 10:30am, followed by services at 12:30pm. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans cemetery.
