Larry Lynn Wegmann, 72 of Springfield, formerly of Festus, MO, passed away, Friday, August 21, 2020 in his home.
Larry was born December 2, 1947 in St. Louis, MO to Gilbert and Clara Wegmann. He was a 1965 graduate of Festus High School, Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelors in Science and Western Kentucky University with a Masters in Science. Larry spent 31 years teaching, retiring in June 2006. He was united in marriage to Linda Litty on June 21, 1969 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Crystal City, MO. Larry was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. He performed in the MSU Community Band, raised funds to help students at Pipken Middle School, he taught fly-fishing at MSU, taught summer programs at Pipkin Middle School, Larry was a member of IFF, MTFA, and SWFF, he enjoyed Fly Tying contests, he won the best Streamer Fly, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, FFF Southern Council Teacher of the year, 2010, Fly Tyer of the year 2015 and Club of the year, 2008. Larry enjoyed outdoor activities including hiking, tennis, camping, boating, and canoeing, nature photography, fly fishing, fly tying, rod building, music, including playing the Trombone, astronomy, Missouri native plants and wild flowers, birding, butterflies, collecting trains, deltiology, and books, reading history, raising Orchids, traveling, reading, and sharing his knowledge with others, young and old alike. The greatest love of Larry’s life was his family.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Linda Wegmann; Children, Dana Lawson and husband Vernon and Jill Dennison and husband David; four grandchildren, Angela Lawson, Aurelia Lawson, Ethan Palmer, and Austin Palmer; step-grandsons, Fabian Dennison and Harry Dennison; step granddaughter, Ellen Dennison; close friends, Jerry and Jackie Jester; along with a host of family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Clara Wegmann.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be at 1:00 pm, September 19, 2020 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 815 East County Road 182 (Plainview) Springfield, MO 65810
