Lavonne (she hated the name Etha) Chaney was born on July 30, 1936 at home in Reeds Spring, Mo. to Ray and Tressie Chaney. She graduated from Branson High School where she played volleyball and was a cheerleader. After graduation she attended SMS and was in the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was “Cobra Queen” at SMS.
Lavonne left college to marry Harold ”Hal” Meadows on April 25, 1954. He was in the Marines so they moved to Miami Beach, Florida and later to southern California. After Hal finished his service they returned to Branson, Mo. where they remained. Hal & Lavonne had five children. Lavonne worked outside the home, mostly in retail sales.
Lavonne died on November 15, 2022 at Cox Hospital, Branson, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Bub and Leroy Chaney, her husband, sister-in-law Bette Nichols, brother-in-law Jim Teague, daughter Marsha Hensley, son-in-law Gary Wilkinson and grandson Cole Meadows. She leaves behind her sisters Leta Teague and Kay (Denny) McCrorey, daughters Terry (Paul) White, Cheryl Wilkinson and Christy Rankin, and son Matt (Linnelle) Meadows. Her grandchildren, Justin Hensley, Lauren Erlinger, Lindsay Johnson, Logan White, Dalton & Morgan Rankin and Hope & Molly Meadows. Great grandchildren Ayden & Ashley Hensley, Cleo & Ames Erlinger, Ben & Berkley Johnson and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Branson with Matt Meadows and Denny McCrorey officiating. Burial will follow in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery in Branson.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers it is requested that memorials in her memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
