Mr. Leland “Pete” Pyle, age 93 of Polk, MO, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2018, at Colonial Springs Healthcare Buffalo, MO. He was born April 26, 1925, in Bethlehem, PA, to Ronald Mercer and Hazel Virginia (Rea) Pyle. He entered into military service in December 1942 and retired as a Major in the Air Force in March of 1970, as Command Post Controller following his service as a Command Pilot of a KC 135 Tanker.
He was united in marriage to Joan Patricia Lawson May 3, 1952, and to this union two sons were born. He is a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church Urbana, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joan Pyle; his older brother Ron Pyle; and a sister Virginia Gephart.
He is survived by his two sons: Gregory Pyle and his wife Karen of Navarre, FL, and Jeffrey Pyle and his wife Tricia of Bolivar, MO; five grandchildren: Shani Simpson and her husband Kyle, Rebekah Lashley and her husband Braylen, Peter Pyle all of FL, Samuel and Matthew Pyle of Bolivar, MO; three great grandchildren: Raylen, and twin-brothers Asher and Leland; a brother David Pyle of Rebersburg, PA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Pitts Chapel. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery Springfield, MO, at 2:00 PM with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Missouri Chapter.
