Louise Prewitt Timmermiere, 95, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009. She was born July 22, 1914 in Palestine, Texas to Thaddeus and Nellie Mae (Swain) Carpenter. Louise is survived by her husband of 17 years, Maitland Timmermiere; sons, Kenneth Prewitt of N.Y. and John Prewitt of Fla.; ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Louise attended high school in Centralia, Mo., where she met and married Carl K. Prewitt in 1934. They lived in Alton, Ill., for many years where they raised four children and operated the Alton Child Care Center. After Carl’s death in 1991, she married lifelong friend, Maitland Timmermiere. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Friday, October 2, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery, Alton, Ill. at 11:30 a.m., the following day. During her lifetime, Louise sewed several thousand quilts, including hundreds of baby quilts for the Springfield chapter of Newborns In Need. Louise touched the lives of many children and wished any memorial donations be made to Newborns In Need, 303 W. Cherokee in Springfield.
