Mable “Maxine” Nicholson, or Granny as she liked to be called, passed away on February 5, 2019. She was born on November 2, 1931 to James Tolbert and Alma Russell in West Plains, Missouri.
In January of 1955, she married the sailor of her dreams, Nick Nicholson. They moved to San Diego California where he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Daddy passed in 1996 and waited patiently for Mom to join him.
She loved everyone she met and always held a special place in her heart for children and animals. She volunteered at fundraisers through AmVets and the American Legion to raise money for Childrens Hospital and baked the best cakes and pies you’ve ever tasted for raffles to raise money. Another passion of hers was nature, from planting her own vegetables to simply watching birds and squirrels play on the feeders. She enjoyed driving along the Gulf of Mexico spotting pelicans, herons and the occasional dolphin. She once spent an entire day babysitting a baby pelican we rescued after a hurricane while we waited for him to be picked up for rehabilitation.
Granny is survived by her son Scott Nicholson and her daughter Lynn Day as well as her grandchildren Brittany Nicholson, Kristy Lutes and Eric Day and her great grandchildren, Lexi, Parker and Claire Lutes. She leaves many other nieces, nephews and great friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Please join us in thought, prayer or in person at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield Missouri, on Friday February 15th at 1pm for graveside services.
