Malcolm Maynard Sayre, Captain, US Navy Retired passed away on January 19, 2022 at 10:45 a.m. from Alzheimers. He was 93 years old, and a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Missouri from April 19, 2019 until January 19, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lemler Sayre. He has a daughter, Tammy Rene Sayre of Valdosta, Georgia, a son, Michael Kevin Sayre of Valdosta, Georgia, a Grandson Michael Keith Sayre, 3 granddaughters, Courtney Brooke Farmer of Atlanta, Georgia, Haley Elizabeth LaHood of Valdosta, Georgia, and Margaret “Maggie” Sayre of Valdosta, Georgia along with 3 great grandchildren. He had two step daughters, Teresa Ann Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and Kim Elaine Rogers of Strafford, Missouri, 2 step-grandchildren, Kamron Lee Shook of Stockton, Missouri and Karlee Ann Shook of Springfield, Missouri, and 2 great grandchildren, a Sister-in-law Sandra Sayre of Zephyrhills, Florida and nephew, Bradley Sayre of St. Petersburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Sayre and sister, Lorilla Shiver.
Malcolm graduated from The Medical College of Georgia on June 6, 1959 and received his license to practice medicine and surgery on July 23, 1959. He practiced at the Palmetto Medical Clinic, in Wauchula, Florida, as partner and part owner, for 15 years.
He joined the Army Reserves during his High School years and remained in the Reserves until he joined the Air Force in 1973 as a Flight Surgeon caring for the 347th F4 fighter squadron at Moody Air Force Base for 4 years. He flew as a Navigator on the F4s. He was in private practice until he was recruited by the Navy in 1980 and spent 3 years as the Chief of Surgery at Rota Naval Base in Rota, Spain. He served out his remaining years of service and retired from the Navy in June of 1988.
Malcolm was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. He was well loved and will be greatly missed by everyone he came in contact with.
