Marilyn Jean McDaniel, 84, of Blue Springs, MO passed away peacefully January 6, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born February 25, 1937, in Springfield, MO to James Edwin and Thelma Bradley McDaniel. Marilyn attended Springfield schools, graduating from Central High School. She obtained a BS in Ed degree in 1960 from SMS (now MSU). She later earned a MS in Ed degree from the University of Kansas. In 1960, she began a 32-year teaching career in the Raytown MO School District. First as a fifth-grade teacher and later as a Special Education Teacher. After retirement, she worked part time several years as a Title 1 Reading Tutor. Marilyn was a member of Raytown Retired School Personnel and Missouri Retired Teachers Association. Marilyn enjoyed working with children and endeavored to provide a variety of experiences to help each child reach their best potential. Marilyn was loving, generous, and compassionate. She cherished the time spent with family and friends and often sought ways she could help make their lives better. Until recent years, she attended as many family events (birthdays, graduations, weddings, special programs) as physically possible. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister Patricia Bruce, brother James David McDaniel, and two nephews. She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Shepherd and Karen Hoffman, a number of nieces and nephews and her close friend, Terrianna Rains The family wishes to thank St Luke’s Hospice for their care and support during Marilyn’s transition. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marilyn’s name may be made to a charity of choice or to the Raytown Educational Foundation, 10750 E State Rt 50, Raytown, MO 64138. Visitation will be January 12, 2022, at 12:00 PM at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, with services following at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
