Martin Thomas Florence, 63, of Dunnegan, Missouri, formerly of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away on March 22, 2023, in Bolivar, Missouri. Marty was born on December 17, 1959, to Charles Franklin and Virgie Alice (Williams) Florence. He was a 1979 graduate of Basehor- Linwood High School. Marty married his high school sweetheart, Janet Witten, and to this union four children were born.

Marty retired from Lansing Correctional Facility after 37 years as a Correctional Officer. He was an avid fisherman, scout leader, outdoorsman, and lover of animals. Marty enjoyed R.V. traveling, camping, and gathering with family. Marty could be found riding motorcycles and driving fast cars in his younger years. Later in life, he enjoyed quiet time with family, working on DIY projects, mushroom hunting, boating, and swimming.

Marty is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Virgie Florence; his first child, Matthew Allen Florence; his sister, Marilyn Sue Pierce, and his first wife, Janet Florence.

Marty is survived by his wife, Barbara (Betsy) Florence; his children: Jamie Sue Shomaker and her husband, Jeremy Michael Shomaker, Michael Lee Florence and his wife, Larra Lynne Florence, Marcus Kevin Florence, Samantha Lynn Davis and husband, Matthew Stephen Davis, and Susan Marie Redieck and her future husband, Andrew Michael Arana; his only grandson, Kearin Christopher Shomaker; his brothers: Virgil and Joe Florence; his sisters: Ruth Kenton, Charlotte Schow, and Dorothy Price, and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service for Marty will be held in Leavenworth, Kansas, to be announced at a later date.
