I have never had the pleasure of personal relationship with Melissa. What I know about her, was shared with me by a dear friend, who is also Melissa's sister, Melinda Aulenbach. I know she fought a VERY brave fight with cancer for the past three years - that she also tried to look at the bright side of any situation she found herself in and that even when she was so sick, she was more concerned about others around her than herself. I know her absence will leave a empty space in the lives of her loved ones but hope they can find peace that Melissa now that she has found peace. Family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Family of Melissa: Ray, Drew, Charlie, Mindy and Wayne, I am so deeply sad so hear that Melissa passed away on Tuesday. My heart and my thoughts are with you during this very difficult time. Melissa and I have been in touch regularly over the past couple of years. By phone, unfortunately, and not in person. (I imagine you know that I live in North Carolina and New York City and so am not in Missouri very often.) But still, it was wonderful to speak with her. What a good and strong and moral and grateful person Melissa was. With a terrific sense of humor. I will not forget our beautiful friendship, especially during those fun summers at the Missouri State Fair while we were in high school. I wish I could be with you at the service. But I will be with you in spirit. Sending much love, Wiley Hausam
