Mitzi slipped away in the early morning hours of October 19, 2019, with Ron, her husband of 65 years, at her side.
Mitzi was born February 20, 1936, to Freeman and Virginia Thompson in Magdalena, New Mexico. She spent her early years in New Mexico and
Oregon, moving with her family to Springfield before she was a teenager. She married the love of her life, Ron Underhill on August 29, 1954.
To this union was born two sons; Steve (Trenna) of Ozark, MO and Tony (Nancy) of St. Louis, MO.
In addition to her husband, sons and their wives, Mitzi is survived by a brother, Tom Thompson (Peggy) of Iberia, MO, a grandson, Jason (Deidre) of Alma, AR, three great-grandsons, Rhett, Woodson and Knox Underhill, all of Alma, AR, and one step-great-grandson, Sam Ryan of St. Charles, MO. She also leaves many other close relatives and friends, all of whom she loved unconditionally and who loved her back.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Hannah (Cooper) Thompson and Freeman Victor Thompson and a granddaughter, Kerby Marie Underhill.
Mitzi was a longtime member of First & Calvary Presbyterian Church where she coordinated flowers for weekly services and served as a deacon.
During her lifetime, Mitzi excelled in any hobby she endeavored. She was a member of the Ozarks Genealogical Society. She enjoyed tracing her and her husband's roots back several generations. She took up crocheting and along with several newborn keepsake afghans, she crocheted a full-sized afghan that she entered into competition at the Ozark Empire Fair. She took home a blue ribbon. Her other hobbies included photography, bird watching and a love/hate relationship with growing roses.
Her favorite hobby, however, was spending quality time with family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 10am to 11am on Saturday, October 26 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with a brief
service following.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may make a contribution in Mitzi's name to Convoy of Hope, P.O. Box 1125
