Patricia Ann Giefer (Smith), 84, of Springfield, Missouri passed away December 14, 2019 with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Edward and Mildred Smith in 1935 in Erie, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Robert Giefer and her only sibling, Carol Schermann, from Dallas, Texas. Pat is also survived by her four children and their spouses, Cindy Rogers (Steve), Sherry Britt (Kevin), Kevin Giefer (Ronay), Stephen Giefer (Autumn), eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
Bob and Pat were married 67 years and lived in many cities over the years. Pat played the piano for years and even in her last months of life. She was a poet and did know it. She was often feisty and witty. She loved to color, do puzzles and had over 1000 mice plus many other collections. Pat was a hard worker, loved to cook, and enjoyed her westerns. Often the grandkids would ask grandma to make lasagna for them. As her memory declined the story she told so often was about milking the goats. If you spent anytime with Pat you know this story. God is now taking care of her instead of us. She is in our hearts forever and her love lives on.
Pat had decided 15 years ago to donate her body to science in order that their passing might help someone else down the road. They picked a Catholic University in St Louis to donate their bodies to help their Anatomical Science & Education department continue their important work of training tomorrow’s doctors & working to find more answers on prevention or hopefully maybe even a cure for Dementia which took our Mom’s memory & eventually her earthly life.
So, in that spirit, our family would like to request any donations or memorial gestures be directed to help further this research. You can find more information about the work that St Louis University does at this link:
