Patsy (Pat) Louise Essary Vaughn, 87, left this world to be with her Lord on June 27, 2022 at home surrounded by family.Pat was born on October 18, 1934, to George and Hazel Essary in Elwood, Missouri. She came to faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young teenager and was baptized in a creek alongside a close friend.
Pat married Danny Lee Vaughn, the love of her life, on October 26, 1952. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage together and raised 4 children. Pat was creative, talented, and fun. She spent many years creating beautifully decorated cakes for weddings and birthdays. Many were blessed by her talents. Pat was outgoing, loved people, and was good at putting everyone at ease. She also enjoyed studying her Bible, drinking Dr.Pepper, being outside, working puzzles, and reading a good mystery. She was a member of First Baptist Church Strafford, Missouri, and attended as often as she was able.
Anyone who knew Pat, also known as “GG,” knew how much she loved being a grandmother and great grandmother. She was a fun and active grandma who continued spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren to the very end even though she didn’t think it was possible to spoil them. Pat was known for doing things like turning the ironing board into a slide, putting GI Joe guys on the ceiling fan and turning it on to launch them, delivering Happy Meals, popsicles, and chocolate, and always being on the lookout for a new toy. Another fun fact about Pat is how excited she got about presents. She loved giving gifts to her family and enjoyed the suspense of waiting to open packages of her own. She may have even been known to peek and rewrap a gift with her name on it a time or two.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Ruby McSwain, and her brothers Junior Essary, Bert Essary, Robert Essary, and Lawrence Joe Essary. She is survived by her son Richard Vaughn and wife, Priscilla, her son James Vaughn, her son (Donald) Joe Vaughn, her daughter Dana Vaughn, her granddaughter Carey Stratton and husband, Kevin, her grandson Neil Vaughn, her great granddaughter Esther Stratton, her great grandson Ezra Stratton, and many other family members and friends.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2022, at Dishman cemetery, near Strafford, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday before the graveside services at Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
