Phyllis Virginia (Tindill) Slagle passed away November 14th, 2022, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, MO. Born on March 26th, 1943, in Lockwood, MO, Phyllis was the long awaited third child of Carl Ward Tindill & Ileta (Greer) Tindill. Her older sister Oletha Mae Tindill died at birth, January 21st, 1929, and her brother Farrell Vernon Tindill was ten years old at the time of Phyllis’s birth. She depended on her older brother throughout their childhood and often turned to him. She grew up loving cars as he did, her love of cars included owning Trans Am and a few Corvettes. She also loved planting flowers, working, and decorating her yard. As well as riding horses in her younger years when Monte was young with the Little Rangers Saddle Club. She enjoyed family of Aunt Emma who went by the nickname of Auntie Bill. Emma and her husband Vestal Loveall lived across the field. Auntie Bill gave her the nickname Phyl Gin. Her uncle Floyd Greer and his wife Eda along with Cousin Wanda Greer were ever present in her youth. The family made many trips to Colorado when she was a child to visit and stay with her Uncle Clarence Greer, his wife Mabel and their children. Her Aunt Juanita Hall, her husband Bill and children lived in Lockwood.

She married Charles Slagle who was the son of Keith Burton & Marjorie Nadine (Holman) Slagle, they had 2 sons, Monte Lee and Brenton Ward. Brenton died shortly after his birth, June 18th, 1969. Monte died February 4th, 1998, leaving 3 sons: Matthew, Tyler, and Chandler Slagle. Phyllis returned to her home of Dade County and even lived in her childhood home for several years. She had a wonderful dog, Sweet Pea, that she loved dearly. She used to buy a bag of pretzels every week for her pony, Sparky. She said she knew Sparky slept in the field next to her bedroom so he would know when she got up. There she enjoyed her brothers’ children, her nieces, Brenda, Debbie, and Susan. Her great nieces and nephews, Ryan Wilkinson, Mel Bryant, Telicia Glenn, Darrin Bryant, Brandy Hastings, and Tia Hawks. Every summer she went to Texas to get her grandson and they spent summers in Missouri with family. Then she became a great grandmother with the arrival of Kason Slagle. She was proceeded in death by her sister, parents, brother and both children. She entered Dade County Nursing Home a few years ago then transferred to Good Shepherd Nursing Home a few weeks ago. She was a member of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church as was her family.
