Ramona Joy Bingaman, 92, of Springfield, MO, departed this life to be with Christ on March 27, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva James Sperry, Sr. and Britta L. Sperry, her sister Shirley Sperry, and her brother, Alva James (Jim) Sperry, and his first wife, Judy Sperry.
Joy was born in Springfield, MO, on October 12, 1930. She lived in Wichita, Kansas, the early years of her life. Her family moved to Monett, MO, when she was grade school age. After attending Monett Jr. College, she transferred to Southwest Missouri State, graduating with a degree in Home Economics.
She worked for the State of Missouri for 32 years, from September 1, 1965, to August 31, 1997. She started as a caseworker but was a social service worker most years of her employment with Division of Family Services. At the end of her career, she did home studies for foster homes and relative home studies for the courts. She felt a great commitment to helping people.
Growing up, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Monett, MO. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Springfield, MO, most of her adult life. She loved her Sunday School Class and attended until she was unable to go. She emphasized the importance of going to church.
Joy loved working in her flower garden and coloring. She enjoyed a trip to Boston and several trips to Florida. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Bruce) Oliver, Palm City, Florida; Carol Bingaman and Nancy Bingaman, Springfield, MO; her sister, Dorothy Haywood, Brentwood, Tennessee; sisters-in-law Barbara Sperry, Monett, MO, and Polly Bingaman, Springfield, MO; nieces and nephews, including Julie (Gene) Parrigon, Pat (Marla) Sperry, David (Gayle) Haywood, Paul (Donna) Haywood, Mary Clark, Janice Bingaman, Rick (Kathy) Bingaman, Jean (Matt) Cobban, Sheri (Rich) Kennehan, and Rodney (Maura) Bingaman.
She was also preceded in death by her niece Sarah Daniels and great great niece, Ava Parrigon, and the following in-laws: Goldie and Robert Bingaman, Woodroe Haywood, Tom Bingaman, and Pansy and Chauncey Bingaman.
Visitation for Joy will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location with Ryan Palmer, minister, officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
