Roy Eugene Kirkpatrick Sr (70) passed away January 10th after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 28th, 1952 in Mayview, MO to Chester Merril Kirkpatrick and Alberta Mae Heiple. the youngest of six children.
Roy graduated Odessa high school, class of ’70, and entered the Army. He served his country as a Redeye Missile Gunner specialist from 1971-1975, traveling around the world executing missions in Panama and Germany. He continued serving in the Army Reserves from 1977-2011 and was proud to be an American. Roy later studied accounting, demonstrating his intellect by acing coursework without ever having to purchase course materials.
Roy was a typical Aries male; appreciating silence, a good laugh, and never shied away from hard work. A jack of all trades, Roy had numerous successful careers after finishing his service. He worked at French’s from 1975-2000 and oversaw quality control for the entire plant. Roy later worked delivering automotive parts for Tri-States; finishing his career serving others with the Fair Grove School System in environmental services and driving the OATs transit bus.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, and collecting beer steins, but most of all he enjoyed building and sharing a life with his wife Carol of 49 years.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings; Arthur William, Eva Mae, Charles Lee, Billy Jo, and Martha Ann; and his son Michael Wayne. Roy is survived by his wife Carol and son Roy Kirkpatrick Jr, grandchildren; Devante, Chyna, Erin, Blaine, and Stormi; great grand children Lynnleigh and Waylon, and nieces Anna and Jessamyn, and Aunt Roberta Dinwiddie.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home East Thursday, January 19th from 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm. Services at Greenlawn Funeral Home East Friday January 20th at 9:30 am and burial at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 am.
