Shirley Ann Akins, age 74, of Springfield, peacefully went to be with her Heavenly Father while surrounded by her family, November 3, 2014 at 11:42 a.m. at Cox South. She was born December 9, 1939 in Springfield. She wrote music, played piano for gospel groups, and was a church pianist for over 40 years. Shirley was a member of North Side Assembly of God. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her friends. She was a Nurse Assistant for 25 years at Cox Hospital and retired in 2006.
Shirley was preceded in death by Jim, her husband of 41 years. She is survived by her son Rick and wife Jill Akins and children, Natalie and husband Nathan Francis, Emily and Sean Akins; and daughter Cindy and husband Erich Gilbertson and his two daughters, and her son Cory and wife Brooke McKee, and three great-grandchildren Maggie, Silas, and Jackson; step-sons David Akins, Danny Akins and his four children; and sister Linda and husband Terry Dean.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 N. National, Springfield, MO with Pastors Jerry Snavely and Alvin Blackard officiating.
