Mrs. Shirley J. Hook, born November 11, 1933, passed Saturday morning into the arms of her loving Lord to join her husband, retired MSGT. Harold G. Hook, who departed in July of 2006. A native of Springfield, she graduated from Senior High School and attended St. John’s School of Nursing prior to her marriage. Shirley returned to Springfield in the early 1970s, and worked for Ozark Eye Surgeons until she retired. Those who knew her will remember her quick wit, gentle smile and giving spirit. Shirley was also preceded into the afterlife by her grandmother, Anna Rowden; her mother and father, Freeman and Nadine Bates; and her aunt, Edwina Mongell. She is survived by her son, Mr. Larry M. Hook of Springfield; her sister, Mrs. Betty Droessler of Springfield; her half-sisters, Ms. Sharon Benton of Springfield, and Ms. Suzanne Bates of Kansas City; her uncle, Mr. John Mongell of Springfield; her nephews, Mr. Jack Rhoads of Springfield and Mr. Joe Rhoads of Phoenix, Ariz.; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. A word of special thanks goes out to her personal care attendants, Ms. Tawnya Bartlett of Springfield, and Ms. Christine Halay of Salem, Mass. Visitation will be in Greenlawn Funeral Home North from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, with a graveside interment on Wednesday, October 28, at 1 p.m.
