Sigrid Ann Silsby Bennett, 76, beloved mother, mother-in -law, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away early Wednesday morning October 7, 2020 from liver cancer. Sigrid was born in Lebanon, MO September 9, 1944 to Otis Lloyd and Ruth Ann Turner. She spent her early years in Conway, MO, moving to Springfield with her family for high school. She resided in south Springfield for the majority of her life. Of utmost importance to Sigrid were her family and friends. She was cared for in her final weeks and hours by her loving family: children Kevin and Kim Silsby, her brother Paul Turner, her cousins Helen and Larry Krudwig, and her son-in-law Laurent Lambert. All of her family members who could not be with her in her final weeks were very attentive calling her and checking in every day or week. Many dear friends near and far treasured her friendship and grieve her absence. Everyone comments that she is one of the sweetest people they had ever known. She always had an amazingly kind heart and demeanor. Sigrid loved birds, flowers, and the beauty and peaceful tranquility of her yard and gardens. She was a highly skilled, retired nurse, an exceptional seamstress, enjoyed creating jewelry with beads and semi-precious gems and stones, and really enjoyed cooking and sharing meals and sweet treats with everyone who knew her. She made many many gifts for her family and friends of quilts, cozy, warm blankets, and literally thousands of pieces of jewelry. She regularly enjoyed playing cards with and having lunch with her large circle of friends. Sigrid recently ended her volunteer work with Crosslines in Springfield as her illness progressed. She also helped her cousin, Helen Krudwig, over the past two decades sewing quilts and vests for Comforts of the Heart of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton of Springfield, and last but not least fabric masks for healthcare providers, family, and friends for Covid prevention. She was a member over the years at Wesley Methodist Church and Schweitzer United Methodist Church of Springfield. Sigrid earned her Registered Nursing degree at Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in the mid 1970’s. She then earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, MO in 1983. Sigrid worked at St. John’s (Mercy) hospital for many years, then transitioned to being one of the RN’s for Springfield public schools while her kids were growing up. Sigrid is survived by her son Kevin Edward Silsby and his wife Theresa, and sons William and Joseph of Colorado Springs, CO, daughter Kimberly Ann Silsby and son-in-law Laurent Lambert of San Jose, CA, brother Paul Turner and sister-in-law Kay Karban Turner, niece Kristina Marie Turner, and nephew Clinton Turner of Las Cruces, NM.
