Stephen Phillip Green passed away on Friday morning, May 31, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, at the age of 61 years. Stephen was the wife of Cyndie Sue (Perry) Green; father of Theodore Alexander Green (deceased), Stephanie Danielle Nicole Green, and Amanda Joy Green; son of Rev. Louis (deceased) and Nina (Porter) Green; only brother of Nina Louise Green and Marian Esther Green.
Stephen was born in Hemet, California, on November 15,1957. He graduated from high school in Cañon City, Colorado; and inherited a love of travel from his parents. After graduation from high school, he went to Midwestern Bible Institute in Denver, Colorado, where he graduated with an AA degree. He also went to Central Bible College here in Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated with a BA in Bible. He always loved learning and history so also earned his MA in Biblical Literature while attending Assemblies of God Theological Seminary and a second MA in Christian History and Thought from Western Evangelical Seminary (now George Fox Seminary) in Oregon.
After graduating from high school, Steve began to move around with his various jobs (all of which he enjoyed). He was a trained chef and restaurant manager as well as a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God; he was a youth pastor in Vermont, a restaurant manager with PTL in Virginia, and an assistant director of Teen Challenge in Colorado. He mentioned having been in 46 states and we had a goal of reaching every state of the U.S. He taught his family to enjoy traveling and love people. Love for people was his most evident gift, as he had a way about him that made everyone around him feel comfortable and important, whether that person was 6 years or 106 years.
Stephen lived in Springfield, MO, for the past two years where he was a Chaplain with Faith Hospice in Rogersville, MO. He enjoyed building model train engines and railroads, knew geography and history and loved combining his vast knowledge of all types of historical knowledge into the books he wrote. His love of travel was passed on to the rest of his family when we would go on outings or vacations. He knew many facts and little-known things about the areas we would visit due to memorizing atlases and encyclopedias, and was learning to be a knowledgeable photographer, taking many photos of the places and people where we would visit. He was also an active member of the churches we attended, with the latest being at Praise Assembly.
Stephen demonstrated a sense of loyalty, an amazing work ethic, an extreme knowledge and skill of working with his hands, and unconditional love to his entire family and everyone he met. No one who knew him ever doubted his love and devotion. He was greatly loved.
Stephen is preceded in death by his son, Theodore Alexander (1994); his father, Louis Dunlap (2015); his father-in-law, Stanley Ray Perry (2018); and his grandparents, William Green (1960) and Florence Althea Dunlap-Green (1995); Franklin Edward Porter (1981) ad Mildred Dorris Jordan-Porter (1987).
Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2019, at Praise Assembly Church .
