Tammy Lynn Mitchell (54) of Springfield, Mo passed away on May 23, 2020 at home. She was born on May 2, 1966. She was the daughter of Jack and Sylvia Alcorn.

Tammy was a Nurse through Springfield Public Schools for 22 years. She was the definition of a caretaker for not only the students but her coworkers and of course her family. She loved her work and considered all of her coworkers her family, and she loved them greatly.

Tammy loved her family more than words could ever express. Her brothers were her world, her mother was her best friend and her son was her greatest joy. She also was the best grandma and the best friend. When she loved someone, she loved them with her whole being. She lit up a room with her smile and bright blue eyes.

Tammy was preceded in death by her father, Jack Alcorn.

She is survived by her mother, Sylvia Alcorn; son, Justin Mitchell and his wife Kelly; three grandchildren, Meleah, David, and Madelyn; and her four brothers, David Alcorn and his wife Cheryl, Randy Alcorn and his wife Cindy, Mike Alcorn, BIlly Alcorn and his wife Shari. Tammy is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Tammy requested no services but instead a celebration of life. Please join her family and come have a drink and listen to music (her request) at the Gunny’s Mill this Friday night, May 29,2020. The family will be there beginning at 2 and through the evening. The address is 1414 W Farm Rd 102, Springfield, MO 65803, United States.

My thoughts and prayers are with Tammy's family! I was so sad to here of her passing, and can only imagine how much she was loved and is missed. I pray that she is in the loving arms of Jesus. ?

Tammy was a wonderful, caring, helpful, and strong woman and nurse. She will be missed by the many people who she helped, cared for, and loved. The world has lost a great woman!! Rest in peace Tammy.

I have had the honor of knowing and working with Tammy for over twenty years. Tammy never wanted to be in the limelight or publicly praised or drawn attention to herself in any way, and yet she stood out as a leader and a mentor for all school nurses. She was forthright, upfront, and not afraid to tell anyone, "this is how it is." and that is so important to have someone who is honest and consistent with everyone, no matter who they are. Tammy has been an integral part of the school community and leaves a lasting impact on the lives of students, parents, staff, and our community. A loyal, fierce advocate for children. Tammy, colleague and friend, I will miss you dearly.

Tammy, Tammy Tammy! How many times did I whisper that in class to get your attention to pass a note! The Memories we have at Tom Watkins, Reed Jr High, are so near and dear to me , you always had a smile on your face, and your laugh know one has that one except you, if you ever saw me at HHS, you would always say “ Chin up Spellman!” I remember the time we got into argument over you going to Church with me, that was the only argument you gave in only cause I wouldn’t stop asking ! Jesus has a NEW ANGEL and she is the PRETTIEST! Love you and Miss you Thank you for some FANTASTIC MEMORIES! ❤️❤️❤️??

So sorry for your loss. I remember when Tammy was just a little girl and it doesn't seem that long ago that I was at going to your house with your cousin, Jim Alcorn. It is hard to believe that it's been nearly 45 years ago, so Tammy was just 10 years old. I hope she had a wonderful life and my prayers go out to the Alcorn Family.

Tammy was a wonderful and beloved fellow school nurse in the SPS district. I always enjoyed her sense of humor. Tammy will be missed. Sincere condolences to the family.

I had the pleasure of working with Tammy for the past seven years. She was a vivacious lady and I will never forget her laugh. Also the time I came in to ask her a question last year and she said something to the effect of "Good Lord you have the weirdest things happen" We had a good laugh at that. She got me through a really difficult time and always kept an eye on me when I pushed myself too hard. She was like a work mom, a sweetheart, and full of concern for others and she will be missed greatly by many.
