Tommie Elva Floyd, 98, Springfield, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at The Maples Health and Rehabilitation. He was born at home in Cedar County, Missouri, on October 4, 1922, to David E. and Lizzie (Shaw) Floyd. He was a WWII veteran and talked about his time in Germany. He was a retired mechanic and courtesy driver for Thompson Sales Company for over 40 years. He was a member of Grace Assembly of God.
Tommie loved his family, fishing, tinkering with woodworking, and giving away his “spinners” made out of pop cans. When his great-grandchildren arrived, he became known as Tubby and lavished them with fun things to do when they came to his house. One of the kids’ favorites was flicking underwear bands at the ceiling fan.
Tommie was preceded in death by his parents; his amazing wife, Lois, of 78 years; 9 siblings; his two sons, David and Bill; and a grandson, Steven Floyd. Tommie is survived by his daughter, Carol Sue Lanham (George) and son, Richard Dean; daughters-in-law, Ann and Glenda; sister, Edna Cowan; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Plus a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour before service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org
