Vinita Kathleen (Meadows) Sims, Branson, Missouri, daughter of John and Mildred (Jackson) Meadows, was born August 21, 1933, in Baxter, Mo., and departed this life June 24, 2020 at the age of 86 years. Vinita was united in marriage to Toy Dean Sims on June 25, 1951. Along with her family Vinita owned and operated Compton Ridge Campground near Silver Dollar City for 40 years. She attended the Keystone Assembly of God Church in Reeds Spring Junction and loved her church family.
As a 5th generation Stone Countian she was proud of her roots in the community and stayed active in family gatherings, Red Hat Society and baking her famous Boston Brown Bread in coffee cans.
Vinita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean Sims, two brothers, Clifford Meadows and Larry Meadows, two sisters, Cleta Rantz and Jean Jackson, granddaughter Amy Kathleen Walker, grandson Brandon Sims, great-grandson Colby Preston and great-granddaughter Lilly Ennis. Survivors include: Three children, daughter Cathy Walker and husband John, daughter Janine Shackelford and son Jeff Sims and wife Susie, Five granddaughters, Nicki (Walker) Janik, Kourtni (Walker) Eshelman, Emily (Shackelford) Preston, Amber (Sims) Ennis, Jackie (Shackelford) Stagner, six great-grandchildren, Bridger Burkes, Ava Burkes, Camden Preston, Cooper Preston, Everett Ennis, Emilia Ennis, four nieces, nine nephews, several cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 11, 2020, in Greenlawn Funeral Home, Branson, MO with Rev. John Barnes officiating. A private burial will be in Historic Evergreen Cemetery, near Silver Dollar City at a later date.
