Warren L. Mitchell, age 86, of Bolivar, MO, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Mercy Hospital Springfield, MO. He was born February 5, 1929, in Polk County, MO, to Ray and Opal (Acuff) Mitchell. He was united in marriage to Mary Jones April 4, 1948. He was a member of the Lone Star Baptist Church at Willard, MO, but most recently Warren attended Heritage Baptist Church in Bolivar. He raised and broke quarter horses from 1951 to 1999. He showed many winning halter and working horses in the four state area. He raised registered gelbvieh cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: M.B. Mitchell, and Dale Mitchell; a brother in-law Ernest Degraffenreid; and a sister in-law Rachel Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Mitchell of the home; three children: Gary Mitchell and wife Janice of Willard, MO, Larry Mitchell of Bolivar, MO, and Jeanie Robinson of Springfield, MO; four grand children: Paula Green and husband Don of Pleasant Hope, MO, Cheryl Fletcher and Jason of Willard, MO, Wendy Miller and Andrew of Los Angeles, CA, and Winter Mitchell of Springfield, MO; four great grandchildren: Bailey Fletcher, Jacob Fletcher, Jesse Fletcher, Makenzi Chandler; one sister Jean Degraffenreid of Bolivar, MO; two sisters in-law: Betty Mitchell of Wishart, MO, and Virginia Ratcliff of Independence, MO; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Mt. Gilead Cemetery Bolivar, MO, with Rev. Chester Cossins officiating, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at Pitts Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Baptist Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel Bolivar, MO.
