Wayne Donald Wilson
SPRINGFIELD- Wayne Donald Wilson, 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 after battling cancer at his home in Springfield, Missouri where he resided with his daughter Jena, son-in-law Joe Yates, grandson Logan, as well as his furry companion Kiera. He was born January 11, 1941 in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the son of Harry E. Wilson and Irene O. Wilson (Franck).
While attending high school in Oelwein, Iowa he was best known for his participation in different sports which included him earning; title of MVP for Eldora’s Football Squad, placed fourth in State Tournament for Wrestling, and was an all-star player for his high school football team. After graduating, he continued his love for sports through participation in a softball league and bowling tournaments with his brothers and father for some time.
Wayne was known best by family and friends for being a dedicated hard worker. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family. Some of his favorite things to do with family was playing cards, attending reunions, and sitting around a big meal together engaged in jokes and conversations.
Preceded in Death by: Both his parents- Harry E. Wilson and Irene O. Wilson (Franck). Two Brothers- Ronald and Jerry Wilson; 4 sisters- Sharon, Virginia, Susan, and Barbara; Life-long companion Diana Rubino.
Survived by: 5 Children- One son; Scott (Lisa) Wilson and 4 daughters; Darla (Rick) Gregor, Dana (Rick) Wilson, Stephanie Wilson, and Jena (Joe) Yates. 8 grandchildren- Amy Lang (Joe), Heidi (Shawn), Alicia (David), Alexandra (Shelton), Emma, Brooke (Josh), Jasamine (Taylor), and Logan. 11 great-grandchildren. 4 brothers- Jim (Bonnie), Bruce (Nadine), Mark (Michele), and Randy (Julie) Wilson. 3 sisters- Carmen Quigley, Faye (Matthew) Dostart, and Jo Ellen (Denny) Ungs.
Wayne will be greatly missed by all who share his memories.
Visitation: Service will be held at Greenlawn North Funeral Home at 3506 N. National Ave. Springfield, MO 65803 from 9:00am to 10:00am on March 17, 2021.
Funeral Service: Immediately following visitation this will take place at the funeral home starting at 10:00am on March 17, 2021.
