Joe Wilson Mackey, age 77 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at Mercy Hospital Springfield, MO. He was born December 19, 1940, in Walnut Grove, MO, to Earl and Martha Ann (Wilson) Mackey. He is a US Army veteran. He was united in marriage to Judy Hook October 7, 1967, and to this union three children were born. He was a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge No. 195, American Legion Post #138, and the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners of Southwest Missouri. He was a member of the Morrisville Methodist Church, but most recently attended the Rural Hill Missionary Baptist Church with family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Tera Gaver; a granddaughter Cheyenne Gaver; and a brother Kenneth “Kenny” Mackey.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Judy Mackey of the home; his children: Scott Mackey, and Crystal Hensley and her husband Bryan all of Bolivar, MO; Five grandchildren: Cody Mackey, Wyatt Gaver, Houston, Porter, and Graham Hensley; a sister Earlene King of Bolivar, MO; a son in-law Earl Gaver of Bolivar, MO; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joe always had something to do, whether taking care of rental property, or working around the house. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, reconnecting with former classmates, and visiting with his friends at the American Legion. He loved traveling and spending time with family.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 10:00 AM, at Pitts Chapel with Bro.’s DeWayne Burdette and Mike Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at the Morrisville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 7, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
