Katie Irene Garton, 96, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017 in Springfield, MO. Katie was born in Springfield, MO on November 15, 1920. Katie married her husband Owen “Kenneth” Garton on September 30, 1942 in Springfield, MO and was married for 74 years. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church since 1948 and remained there until her passing. Katie was a seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her many grandkids as well as many different quilts for the family. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Garton, her two parents Howard and Lillian Kauffman, two of her sons Edwin and Jerry Garton, two brothers George Kauffman and Warren Thomas Kauffman, and sister Dorothy McElhany. She is survived by numerous family including children Katherine Buckner and her husband Charles, George Garton and his wife Rebecca, Owen Kirby Garton, James Garton and his wife Gail, and Ronald Garton. She also has 13 grand-children, 38 great grand-children, and 3 great-great grand-children. Katie is also survived by cousin Reba Hubbard and two sisters-in-law Flo Kauffman, and Rita Melton.

Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home South on Thursday, September 14, at 6-8:00 pm and services will be at Liberty Baptist Church on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 1:00 pm. The family asks that any donations be made to Liberty Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
