Novie Kermit Choate was born August 22, 1918 in Pleasant Hope, MO to Mack Choate and Gertie (Clave) Choate.
He grew up in the Rock Prairie community along with his 4 siblings and attended Black Oak School.
Novie was saved at an early age and united with Rock Prairie Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until his mid-90’s when his health no longer permitted.
His greatest desire and prayer in this life was for all to hear the gospel and have the same salvation that he knew.
On September 3, 1939, Novie was united in marriage to Irene Brakebill and 11 years later their home was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Loretta.
Novie farmed for several years and had dairy cattle while on the Cowden farm. His favorite memories of those times were of planting and picking corn with his youngest brother Willard. They could have good times, even when working. They then moved to Pleasant Hope, where Novie would drive a school bus for the district for 25 years. He had a firm hand with his “kids” who rode that bus, not for lack of love, but because of love. He had a sincere desire to help them become strong, responsible, and caring adults with a desire to know and serve God.
Novie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, son-in-law Kent Redd and sisters, Elsie Gaynor and husband Fred, Thelma Sallee and husband Arcie and his brothers, Wilfred Choate and wife Ruth and Willard Choate.
He is survived by his daughter, Loretta Redd, sisters-in-law Jean Choate and Jewell Brakebill. He is also survived by nieces, Madeline Gaynor Dohle and Carolyn Sullivan, nephews, Vester, Delbert and Edward Choate, Kenny, Ronnie and Mike Choate, Gaylord Gaynor and Gary Brakebill, several great nieces and nephews, his church family that will greatly miss his presence, strength and influence and many other friends.
Visitation for Novie will be on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn. Funeral services will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 10:00 am in Rock Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, with burial following in Rock Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rock Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, 2406 E. 525th Road, Buffalo, MO 65622
