Travis Dale DeHart, age 41, of Springfield, MO, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016. He was born January 12, 1975, in Waterloo, IA, to Steven and Mary (Pennell) DeHart. The family moved to Stockton, MO. In 1983. Travis graduated from Stockton High School in 1993. Travis participated in baseball and football during his school years. He was employed at the Orleans Trail Marina.
Travis joined the Missouri Army National Guard in 1996. In 2000 he took an Active Guard Reserve position. In 2003 Travis deployed to Iraq with the 203rd Engineer Combat Battalion (Houn’ Dawgs) as Alpha Company Operations Sergeant. The deployment lasted 15 months. In May 2009 Travis was selected as Forward Support Company, 203rd (Wardawgs) First Sergeant, for the 203rd deployment to Afghanistan. The Unit returned in Sept. 2010.
He received many awards over his 20 years of service, including Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award) and Army Achievement Medal ( 3rd Award), and the Humanitarian Action Medal for Service in Guatemala and Louisiana.
He holds the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal, Iraq Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, and the Combat Action Badge.
1SG DeHart was an instructor at the Engineer Brigade Sapper Leader Course, and was highly regarded for his tactical and technical proficiency. He is looked up to by all who attended that course, and anyone who ever served with him. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #12078, in Clever, MO.
Travis is survived by his mother Mary, daughter, Mallori 10, son Hayden 8, brothers: Bill (Sherry) Fischer, Mark (Tracy) Fischer, niece Taylor, nephews: Nathan and Noah, several Aunts, and Uncles and many hundreds of National Guard brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his close buddy, his dog Spook. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve DeHart and grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016, at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Burial with Military Rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home Springfield, MO.
