Burl Sayre Ashley, 87 of Springfield, born December 25, 1922 in Syracuse, Ohio to the late Ralph and Naomi (Sayre) Ashley, passed away on September 6, 2010 at The Maples.
He grew up in Letart Falls, Ohio and graduated from Racine High School in 1940. Following high school he proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps as a pilot and was honorable discharged and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry in 1949 and worked in the field until his retirement in 1983. He was dedicated to his faith and was a member of the Methodist church where he lived and most recently a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
He was united in marriage to Pauline Shelton on August 15, 1953 in Lebanon and to this union two sons were born.
Survivors include his loving wife of the home, Pauline; sons, Stephen Ashley and wife Sharon and Craig Ashley and wife Tracy; three granddaughters, Kelly, Heather, and Susan; and one great grandson Joey; numerous other relatives and a host of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at 3:00 pm at Greenlawn South Funeral Home.
