Lloyd E. Layne, age 90, born near Rogersville, MO, passed away October 30, 2012 after suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage Oct. 29th. He is survived by his wife, Mabel “Mabs” of 67 years; one son, Chuck (Connie) of Columbus, Ohio; grandson, Conrad of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Rebecca (Royal) Short and two great-grandchildren, Riah and Rustin of Archbold, OH; one sister Lucille Hillin of Springfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and dear friends in MO and AZ.
Lloyd was a child of the Great Depression and learned at a young age about the values and character created by hard work. After high school he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years. Lloyd then attended the University of Missouri, receiving a degree in Electrical Engineering. Most of his career was in Tucson, Arizona doing missle and space equipment design and development. He also served on many community committees and projects advancing education and public service. While in Tucson, Lloyd and Mabs were active members of Catalina United Methodist.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Schweitzer United Methodist Church, 2747 E. Sunshine, Springfield, MO, 65804. Please reference “In memory of Lloyd Layne.” Visitation will be in Schweitzer United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012. Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 in Fordland Cemetery. The family also wishes to thank all the relatives and friends who have shown tremendous love and support.
