Dorothy Marie (Hume) Vitzthum passed to her eternal reward in Willard Care Center in Willard, MO on November 2, 2012, 6:26 p.m., at the age of 94 years, 8 months and 18 days; she was born February 15, 1918 in Jerome, MO.
Dorothy was an ardent prayer warrior and had spent many years of faithful Christian service as a pastor’s wife. She was the widow of the late Reverend Lee Joseph Vitzthum. Together they pastored Church of God congregations in Missouri for over 50 years. She was a breast cancer survivor of 60 years. Dorothy was a member of First Church of God, Life Quest congregation, in Springfield, MO. She loved to be in God’s house every Sunday as her health would permit. She had spent the past five years living with her daughter, Beverly Hood, in Bolivar, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Walter Hume and Nora Elizabeth (Roderick) Hume. Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter, Gayle Marie; grandson, Michael Lee Hood; great granddaughter, Carrie Lee Austin; son-in-law, Norvell Dennis Hood; two sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Alexander (Wendal) of Springfield and Beverly Hood of Bolivar; four grandchildren, Wendy Clark, Lendal Alexander, Tammy Alexander and Denise Weeks; 15 great grandchildren and soon to be eight great-great grandchildren.
The family will be in attendance to receive friends and family before services beginning at 12:00 p.m., noon, which will be held in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m., with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
