Harlan John Handley of Springfield, formerly of St. Louis, born on August 24, 1925 in Washta, Iowa to Merlin and Ila Handley, passed away on Monday July 8, 2013 in Cox South Hospital. He attended school in Iowa and Missouri graduating from West Plains High School in 1943. Harlan was inducted into the U.S. Navy in 1944 and discharged in 1946. For many years he worked for Monsanto in East St. Louis from which he retired. He was married to Ruth Davidson Pauly May 7, 1954 in St. Louis and resided there until 2003. His wife, a step-daughter Ruthann Sedovic, and his parents precede him in death. He was a member of the Lemay American Legion Post 162 for 32 years. Surviving him are son-in-law, Ron Sedovic from St. Louis; granddaughter Linda Fox and Harland, Maryland Heights; grandson Larry Sedovic and Michelle of High Ridge; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren, siblings: Dean Handley and Sherry of Dana Point, CA; Rhea Beth Coleman, Springfield; Lowell Handley and Pat, Springfield; step-sister Judy Shumacher and Steve of Olatha, KS; plus nephews, nieces and friends. Graveside services will be on Monday at 1:00 pm, July 15, 2013 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
