David B. “Dave” Bailes, departed this life, on August 15, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 2, 1937, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the oldest of two children, to the late Dencil Bailes and Emily Gray. On June 9, 1960, he married Carolyn Sue “Kay” Croft, who survives. They were blessed with three children who they are very proud of, a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Lori Howerton, of Rogersville, a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and JoAnne Bailes, of Springfield, and also a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Sherri Bailes, of Tucson, Arizona. He was further blessed with his beautiful grandchildren whom he adored, Alli, Tara, Mandy, Kadie, Chad, Emily, Heather, Mariah and Olivia. Dave attended Chillicothe High School (Ohio), and then joined the United States Navy in 1955. He served as a Hospital Corpsman on the USS Olmstead. After leaving the Navy/Marines in 1960, he went to work for the Chillicothe Hospital, in Chillicothe, Ohio. He then began working with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1966. After several moves and a career of 22 years with the Bureau of Prisons, Dave retired as the Associate Warden in Marion, Illinois in 1988. He also retired from the Greene County Sheriff’s Department in 2006. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 18, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 W. Battlefield, Springfield, MO. A Graveside service will be on Monday, August 19, 2013, at 9:00 am, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, MO.
