Louis Jefferson Dean, age 88, passed away on October 15, 2013 in Springfield, Mo. He was born on April 8, 1925 in Webb City, Ar. to Fay and Della Dean. He moved around a lot in his youth and ended up in Seligman, Mo. where he graduated from high school and met his future wife, Reba Louise Abbott of Conway, Mo. They married on June 5, 1943, right out of high school, and he joined to Army Air Corp which became the U.S. Air Force in time. He spent more than 24 years in the Air Force and reached the rank of Lt. Colonel. He and Reba had 4 children, Penny Wagner of Springfield, Steve Dean of Nashville, Tn., Robert Dean of Nixa and Jeff Dean of Springfield. Those children produced 9 grandchildren, and they gone on to give Lou and Reba 13 great-grandchildren. After retiring from the Air Force, Lou went on to get his BS at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. He got his Masters here in Springfield at MSU. He was a counselor at the Neighborhood Youth Corp, Administrator of the Osteopathic Hospital and worked with the Chamber of Commerce. He also got his real estate license and had his own business until he decided to finally retire. After that he worked with The Farmers Market up until a few years ago. He was an avid golfer and bowler until a couple of years ago. He’s also a member of University Heights Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Reba, daughter Penny, sons Steve, Robert and Jeff and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 21, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in Greenlawn Funeral Home South with burial following in Hazelwood cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
