Kenneth (Kenny) Ray Smith, age 81, of Springfield, MO, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Christian Health Care East. He was born January 18, 1933, in Red Top, MO, to Bill and Pearl (Patterson) Smith. Kenny was united in marriage to Barbara Tracy on November 22, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He was a member of Fair Grove First Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Kenny retired from Springfield Tablet Manufacturing after forty-five years of employment. After retirement Kenny enjoyed woodworking and traveling, Kenny has left his legacy with many family members and friends because of the furniture that Kenny had built for them. Kenny and Barbara were always supportive of their grandchildren, attending all of their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pearl Smith; and two brother-in-laws, Charlie Lane and Tom Hewitt. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Ann Smith, Springfield, MO; two children, Blake Smith and wife Cathy of Strafford and Greg Smith of Springfield; three grandchildren, Zack Smith and wife Michele, Lindsay Dunning and husband Brent, and Eli Gresham; one great granddaughter, Aria Dunning; four sisters, Wanda Lane, Martha Hewitt, Carolyn Wrinkle and husband John, and Janice Wrinkle and husband Dean; and a host of family and friends.
A celebration of Kenny’s life will be held at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO with Rev. Dale Rose officiating. Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri, with full military rites. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Memorial contributions may be made to the Regional Hospice.
