Dolan Jacob McCurry was born on July 27, 1925. He passed away on August 14, 2014 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, just six months earlier. Dolan grew up on a farm in Dallas County, MO. After returning home from WWII, where he served aboard the Battleship USS Colorado, he went to work for the War Department and then for the Veterans Administration. After that, he worked for Tindle Milling Company, Ozark Tractor Company and the U.S. Postal Service. He married Ruth Wommack McCurry on February 9, 1947 and they celebrated 66 years together. They had two sons, Danny and David. He always told his sons that “their mother could have been 1st Lady of the USA and would have been the best they had ever had.” They were long time members of New Salem United Methodist Church. Dolan and Ruth, with their friends George and Zola Mullings, developed the Lake Shore Hills subdivision near Fellows Lake. Dolan and Ruth built numerous spec houses, mostly north of Springfield. Dolan traded in dairy heifers in the 50’s and 60’s and ran a lot of cows and yearlings until recently. He seemed to get the most enjoyment and satisfaction out of the cattle business. Dolan was a huge basketball fan and attended thousands of games all around the Springfield area. He had played for Pleasant Hope and was the MVP of the Bear Creek Tournament in the early 1940’s. Dolan is survived by two sons and their wives: Danny and Teresa, and David and Sheryl; four grandchildren; Cody, Katie and husband Wade Stanley, Lauren and Zane: three brothers; Elwin D. and wife Lucille, Glen, Don and wife Pat. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm, Monday, August 18, 2014, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Visitation will be noon-1:00pm. Burial will be in Mt. Comfort Cemetery.
