George Henry Geerlings, age 83, died peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2014. He was born September 4, 1930 in Callao, MO. After graduating from Callao High School, he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher. He served in the United States Marine Corps before graduating with an engineering degree from the University of Missouri. He married Jane Barton on September 10, 1955. George retired after 37 years working as a design engineer for the Missouri State Highway Department in Springfield. He is survived by Jane, his loving wife of 58 years; his son, Jack Geerlings (Kathy Stever) of Ferndale, Michigan; his daughter, Ann Smith (Todd) of Willow Park, Texas; daughter-in-law, Leasa Geerlings of Olathe, Kansas; his grandchildren: Clark and Beth Geerlings, Matt and Jenny Smith, and Grant Geerlings; and his siblings: Lee, Fred, and Lambert Geerlings, Katie Graham and Ettie Alice Miles. He was preceded in death by his son, Bart Geerlings. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM today in Greenlawn Funeral Home North at 3506 N. National Avenue.
