Bernerd Alvah Blood, age 94, of Springfield, MO, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his residence. He was born February 7, 1920, in Larrabee, IA, to Walter Eugene Blood and Grayce Mildred Stivers. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Marlin, brother Gail, sister Mildred Delzel, and his son, Walter.
He was a member of the Springfield Bible Church. He served in the U.S. United States Army during WWII. And recently traveled with his son Alvan to Washington D.C. on the Honor Flight. Bernerd really enjoyed such things as: helping others, making music on his guitar, long-distance running, boxing and serving as a Greeter in the church for many years, where he was a charter member.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Anna Blood, of Springfield; his children: Alvan C (Ruth) Blood and Mary Lou Buckmaster; his brother Keith; grandchildren: David, Steve and Ron Blood, Julie Witten and Rob Buckmaster; great-grandchildren: Kyle Black, Ashley Harris, Jody and Kevin Blood, Cody Blood, Melanie Stover and Crystal Blood, Sean Cook, Nathan and Andrew Buckmaster, plus Kelsey, Jennifer and Eric Witten.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday August 23, 2014 at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO. with Pastor Curt Zachary Officiating. Burial will be held in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday August 22nd at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Bible Church Mission Fund, 2145 E Grand, Springfield, MO 65804, or to the Mercy Hospice Volunteer Ministry in Springfield.
