Robert E. DeVore, 84, passed away on November 2, 2014. He was born in Jelloway, Ohio on October 19, 1930. Robert graduated from Lucas high school, was a veteran in the United States Army and retired from Empire Detroit Steel after twenty nine years. He married his wife on September 27, 1951. Robert was a member of Hanover Lodge #0115, King Cyrus #207, Ashland Council #128, St. Johns Commandrey #20, Abou Ben Adhem Shriners/past masters unit, G. Chaplain of Grotto of N.A., Scottish Rite Valley of Joplin and Queen City O.E.S. #226. Robert had 50 year pins in all bodies and a Lewis and Clark award.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, B.W. and Eva DeVore and a daughter, Sharon Ann Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children James W., Michael E. and Shirley, Sandra Martin; several grandchildren; great- grandchildren; sisters, Dixie Esterline, Mary Lou Feightner; and nieces and nephews. Also surviving Robert is a cousin, Albert Gates and close friends, Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Cates.
Services for Robert will be Thursday, November 6, 2014 in Greenlawn Funeral Home South at 12:30 p.m. with burial to follow in Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with full military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m with Masonic rites and Eastern star. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
