Virginia Lee Wester Owen, age 92, of Springfield, Missouri passed away Friday May 20, 2016 at Springfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was born July 9, 1923 to Loyd and Christie (Dickens) Wester on the Dickens family farm just south of McDaniel Lake. Attended Glidwell grammar school and later graduated from Senior High School in 1941. Virginia was a Special lady she loved her garden and especially her roses along with all her other beautiful flowers. Virginia loved her children, grand children, great grand children and cooking those special holiday meals and spoiling them and her host of friends with her famous oatmeal cookies, in-law cake, fudge, chocolate covered pretzels and her divinity. She always enjoyed working hard and then playing cards and in later years playing bunko, dancing and dominos. The past few years putting puzzles together with her friend John. Virginia retired from Dayco and then worked at Famous Barr in Springfield for several years and worked at Wal-Mart in Republic, Mo. She was a member of Graceway Baptist Church and was a long time member of Simmental of the Ozarks, Inc. Virginia is preceeded in death by her parents, former husband Milford Owen, a brother George Wester and wife Christine, nephews Terry Wester and Wesley Wester. She is survived by four children Vonda Yocom of Springfield, George (Sandy) Owen of California, Doug (Judy) Owen of Battlefield and Aaron (Jennifer) Owen of Bois D ‘Arc; six grand children Monica (Adam) Meador of Springfield, Clint Owen and Shawna Owen of California, Adam (Kayla) Owen of Bois D’ Arc, Matt Owen and Casey Owen of Bois D’Arc; four great-grand children Keyton and Jaymin Meador, Kanton and Blayne Owen; nephews Tony (Debbie) Wester, Kelly Wester; special friend John Hines and family Tammy and Mike,Tressa and Randy, Jim and Jacki and Kara, and good friends Ruth Hicks, Denna Crain and cousin Pat O’Connell and all her Bunko and dance friends. The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at Springfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare and Hospice Compassus for their compassionate care for Virginia. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 5:00-7:00pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016, 10:00am, also at Greenlawn North. Interment will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
