James “Butch” Akers was born July 15, 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie, his parents Orval and Erma Akers, his sister, Mary Blanton, and two nephews.
Butch grew up around Norris and Calhoun, Missouri. He graduated from Calhoun High School.
Butch is survived by his sister, Sue Reagan of Springfield, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and many friends.
He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was living in the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon at the time of his death. He moved to Texas and became a truck driver in the oil field business. He did that for nearly 30 years before returning to Missouri. He loved going to the Waffle House and spent many hours there vising with people.
A graveside service will take place at Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 11:00 AM.
