Juanita “Nita” Johnston, age 80, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on June 20, 2021. She was born on December 3, 1940, Martinsburg, Missouri, to Fay and Edna Lorraine Hinten. She attended R 6 Community High School, Laddonia, MO, where she graduated valedictorian and was a star basketball player.
She was a believer in Jesus Christ, a Sunday School teacher, and played the piano for many years at church. Her interests also included Friends of the Zoo, sewing for third world countries, crocheting, reading, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Johnston. She is survived by her children Lee (Angela) Petty of Kansas City, MO, Lenita (Brent) Davison of Lebanon, MO, Cynthia (John) Bradley of Springfield, MO, Clinton (Sharon) Petty of Willard, MO; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Fritch and Judy Goodwin; and brother, Marv Hinten.
The service will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, June 23, at 2:00, with the visitation preceding at 1:00. The burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Garden. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, that contributions be made to the World Wildlife Fund.
