Randy Lamar Thrower, age 61, passed away from a sudden illness while with family in Arizona on Sunday, August 1, 2021. He is now home with his Lord and Savior. Randy was born on May
6, 1960, to David and Marie (Johnson) Thrower in Brunswick, Georgia. He married the love of his life, Kelly Hartsell, on December 24, 1979; nearly 42 years ago. He was proceeded in death
by his parents, David and Marie Thrower, his father and mother in-law, Bob and Rama Hartsell, and nephew, Daniel Nathan Goddard.
Randy is survived by his wife, Kelly; by his son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Denise Thrower; his 3 grandchildren, Daniel Thrower, Dallas Thrower and Delaney Thrower; 2
brothers, Ronnie (Darlin) Thrower and Jerry (Susan) Thrower; Sister-in-law, Kim (Earl) Routh; 2 nieces and 6 nephews; 9 great-nieces and 8 great-nephews; aunts, many cousins and other
dear family and friends; and Best Friends of over 30 years, Ron and Dianna Earhart. Randy was a true family man. He adored his family and was so proud of being a Papaw to his 3
precious grandkids. Sophie, our chiweenie, his constant shadow, is already missing her buddy. Randy served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1982 with the Military Police (MOS). He
served in West Germany for two years and then was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. He and his wife, Kelly, then moved back to Springfield, Missouri. Randy furthered his career in law
enforcement when he went to work at the Greene County Sheriff’s Department under Sheriff John Pierpont. He served as a Booking Sergeant in the Greene County Jail. He then went on to
work at the United States Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield. He was a Correctional Officer and finished out his service there in 2015 in the Property Room.
Randy accepted Christ as his Savior at 18 years of age. This was the beginning of many years of Christian Service and Ministry. Randy, along with his wife, worked with kids of all ages in
Sunday School, Wednesday Night Programs and Summer Camps. He most recently taught the Amazing Life Adult Class at Grandview Baptist Church in Springfield. There, he was known as
“spackle” because he would fill in wherever and whenever needed and loved doing it. He truly loved all his church family. Randy and Kelly moved to the Phoenix, AZ area this past May to be with their son and his family and to help in the ministry of their new church plant in Laveen, AZ, Village Hope Church. After only being in Arizona three months, God chose to call him Home.
Visitation will be at 12:30, Saturday, August 14, 2021 at the Greenlawn East Funeral Home in Springfield, MO, with the Memorial Service following at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Longstaff officiating.
