Larry Quackenbush, 60, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at 3:58pm, after his battle with COVID-19. The care he received from the medical staff at Mercy Hospital was deeply appreciated by his family. In addition, the pastoral care that has been received from Larry’s church, James River Church, has meant a great deal to his family.
Larry Dean Quackenbush was born on June 6, 1961, in Springfield, Missouri. At an early age, his love for fishing, hunting, and woodwork as an apprentice to his father, Rev. Russell Quackenbush, brought him much joy. In high school, Larry succeeded in bowling and played varsity football. Larry was a fine musician, mastering the bass guitar and playing in several churches throughout his life as well as singing in church choirs. After giving his life to Jesus when he was 6 years old, he was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ all his life.
Larry grew up in Wichita, Kansas and Cushing, Oklahoma, where he graduated in 1979. Larry attended Evangel University, graduating in 1983. While at Evangel, Larry had the joy of playing in the band, One Accord, with his brother and friends. The band traveled and represented the university with its president, Dr. Robert Spence. Larry also played intramural softball with his college team, The Dynasty, from Scott Second North. He cherished that experience.
After graduation he moved to South Bend, Indiana where he served in many different ministry positions at LeSEA Broadcasting for multiple years in television ministries. Through this, Larry traveled to many places including Israel and The Congo, alongside the Feed the Hungry ministries with Lester Sumrall and sons. Following his work at LeSEA, Larry accepted a position as executive producer on the media ministries team at Capital Christian Center in Sacramento, California. It was there that he met his future bride, Cathie Wilson.
In 1999 Larry accepted the invitation to join the production team at the Cardone Media Center, the national media center for the Assemblies of God. While employed there, Larry was instrumental in producing videos for General Superintendents Rev. Thomas Trask, Rev. George Wood, and Rev. Doug Clay as well as Rev. Dan Betzer and Rev. Randy Hurst. Larry loved his work, the team he worked with, and the mission that fueled his labor for the cause of Christ.
Larry is survived by his wife, Catherine Ann Wilson Quackenbush, his daughter, Macy Catherine Quackenbush Sweeters, his son, Russell Landon Quackenbush, his son-in-law, Dustin Lee Sweeters, his brother, Dr. Randal Quackenbush and his family, Shelly Quackenbush, Elise Quackenbush, Lauren Seler, Ryan Seler, Aubrey Quackenbush, and Rosie Seler. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Rev. Dr. Russell and Velma Quackenbush, and his daughter, Tara Elizabeth Quackenbush.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled when it is safer for family and friends to travel.
