Murray Eugene “Buzz” Bussard beloved husband of Josephine “Jo” Bussard for 73 years passed away on August 16, 2021, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, MO. He was born May 19, 1924, near Middletown, Maryland, the son of Elmer F. and Mamie Murray Bussard.
He graduated from Middletown High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 and served with the Third Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II. While in the service he met his wife, Jo Failla, a Navy W.A.V.E. at NAS Patuxent River, Maryland. They were married by the Navy chaplain on June 8, 1945.
He spent over 40 years employed in the motor carrier industry in management and sales working the East Coast area until moving to Springfield in 1982.He enjoyed traveling, working in his yard and garden and playing golf. He and Jo liked Florida and spent over twenty winters there.
He was a member of Evangel Temple Assembly of God since 1983. He was also a life member of D.A.V., Third Marine Division Association, Lessing Passaic Masonic Lodge #67, New Jersey, AARP and S.A.R. Ozark Mountain Chapter.
He is survived by his daughter Lois’ husband Dennis Stead of Springfield, grandson Shawn and his wife Sharon Stead of Imperial Beach, CA grandson Bart and his wife Kellye Stead and great-grandson Jacob Stead of Springfield.
He has one surviving sibling Pauline Zimmerman of Frederick, MD. He was predeceased by his brother Elmer F. Bussard Jr. and sisters Virginia “Ginny” Compher, L. Audra Feaga and Betty A. Powell and brother Ralph D. Bussard.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, 11:30am-12:30pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Service will follow at 12:30pm, also at the funeral home. Murray will be laid to rest with full military honors at 2:00pm in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
