Alice Louise Acox, age 90, of Springfield, MO, passed away in her home on October 13, 2022. On February 6, 1932, Louise was born in the family farm home in Dade County, MO to William Franklin LaRew and Mabel Stockton LaRew, and was delivered by her aunt. She had one brother Homer LaRew and 2 sisters, Marie Roper and Pauline Hefner. She attended Carlock, a one room schoolhouse, from the first grade through 4th grade. In 1950 she graduated valedictorian of her class from Dadeville High School and earned a scholarship to Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO. In 1955 Louise met Jerry Lloyd Acox and on November 17, 1956, they were united in marriage and spent the next 66 years together. Jerry served in the Air Force and they were stationed in Shreveport, LA for the first year of their marriage. In 1957 they moved back to Springfield, MO and in 1964 they welcomed a baby girl, Lisa, into their family. Louise spent most of her professional career working as a secretary for various law firms, spending 21 years working for Judge George Flanigan as a judicial secretary in the Missouri Court of Appeals. Upon their return to Springfield Louise and Jerry began attending Boulevard Baptist Church where Jerry had attended in his teenage years. During her membership at the church Louise has volunteered in many ways including church clerk, bereavement committee and Sunday school teacher in the College & Career class. Louise and Jerry also spent a few years volunteering at the information desk in the Greene County Courthouse in Springfield. One of Louise’s favorite activities was traveling, especially with family and friends. Throughout the years she enjoyed many other hobbies including bowling, sewing, gardening, reading and writing, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Louise was a Saint Louis Cardinals fan “by marriage” and throughout the years watched thousands of games by Jerry’s side. Louise is survived by her husband Jerry, one daughter, Lisa LaRew Acox White and her husband Jeff of Springfield; one granddaughter, Amanda Marie Gardner and her husband Fred of Springfield; one great grandson, William Easton Gardner; two step great grandsons, Christian Blackwell and Aaron Blackwell; and several cousins, nieces, nephews and family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; twin sisters who died at birth; her brother and both of her sisters.
