Melvin G. “Frog” Dollarhide was born in Toledo, Missouri on March 4, 1940. The attending physician was the local veterinarian! The proud parents were John and Faye (Friend) Dollarhide. Three siblings came later; Verna,Leonard and Anita.
Mel attended Central High School. It was in the school hallway that a beautiful 14 year old brunette named Karen Parsons called him “Elvis” and he was hooked. Two years later, those kids crossed state lines, lied about their ages and began 52 years of marriage! Their children are Susan (Golding), Doug (wife Cindy) and Greg.
Mel was employed at Hoffman-Taff Syntex and went on to spend 19 years as a machinist for Paul Mueller. He worked hard providing for his family. Days off he could be found under a shade tree pin striping at car shows to make extra cash.
In the 80’s, he and son Doug joined efforts and Frog’s Sign began. They worked side by side until 2012 when Mel left to be the full time caregiver for Karen.
Where did the name “Frog” come from? It was given during his motorcycle days. The exact story changes but the name stuck. Mel loved custom cars and frequented car shows leading to a collection of friends, trophies and memories. It was due to their shared love of cars that he met his
companion Shirley Blades. They have spent the last 3 years enjoying life
together.
Shortly after Karen passed, Mel struggled with thoughts of how he would spend eternity. It brings us great comfort to know that he confidently prayed and trusted solely in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
On Wednesday, October 26, 2022 a crowd greeted him in Heaven. His bride Karen and their infant son Tony. His son in law Paul, granddaughter Robin and great-granddaughter Avery.
Papa Mel or Papa Frog as they called him left behind 9 grandchildren:
Nick, Chad, Jessica, Tony, Alex, Brenda, Erin, James, Cooper and 14 great
grandchildren: Hayden, Claire, Ozzy, Riley, Olivia, Cinco, Emma, Jaylee Jaxon, Harper, Hazel, Harrison, Addison and Archer.
